This National Park site is really a web museum of the ordinary soldier's life in camp during the Civil War. "Soldiering is 99% boredom and 1% sheer terror" wrote one soldier to his wife. Soldiers spent weeks and months at a time in camp between engagements, even during active campaigning. Their life consisted of tedious daily routines, some of them shown through the artifacts on this site. |
