DCS LIBRARY NEEDS YOU!!!! |
Our library at DCS is an exciting and energetic place on campus for all students. Parent volunteers from all grade levels are welcome and necessary to help create that excitement. |
Please return the attached form, stop by the library or email Mrs. Taylor (mataylor@scusd.net) to sign up to help in any of the following areas. There are many opportunities – even some home based projects and I thank you all in advance for your energy and dedication to our library. Training will be provided for all tasks – along with a large amount of gratitude. |
Class Check-out parents Each class (K – 5) should have at least 2 parents who will come each week with the class to the library. Check out parents will collect and check in books that are being returned, check out new books to students and reshelve books that have come back. This is a great way to get to know all the children in your child’s class. Middle school classes that are scheduled for the library are also welcome to have library parents. |
Brunch/Lunch Library Parent Since the library is heavily scheduled with classes and Mrs. Taylor will be with those classes, we need 1 – 2 parents a day to be available in the library during brunch, recess and lunch so that students (especially middle school) who need the check out books will be able to . Access to books and people to help find those books is so important for our students and this is a great way to ensure that they have that access. |
Library Care and Maintenance Like everything else worth caring about, our library needs constant tending. There are books to be repaired or covered, shelves to be straightened and magazines to prepare for students. Teachers may need books pulled for a class project. Class sets of bookmarks may need counting, copying, laminating -- and the list will grow - |
Special Projects There are a couple of library special projects that will be going on ---- things to make our collection very accessible to students at the correct grade level. Our nonfiction books will be marked on the spine label if they are appropriate for our K – 2 students. Also, our fiction books will be marked if they are content appropriate for middle school, but not elementary. The goal is to make sure that ALL of our students, K – 8, are reading books that are correct for their reading level and age level. |
Special Events Throughout the year, there will be library based events that need an extra pair of hands --- or several extra pairs of hands. Look for Book Fairs, Author Visits, Book Swaps, Student Book Reviews and more.
Library Decor Keeping the decor in the library fresh and new keeps the atmosphere friendly for our students. I would like to incorporate student work, projects from Girl or Boy Scout troops etc as part of the library look. |
On call/at home help Things come up at the last minute that we may need a hand with, at home kinds of things will pop up. If you like “last minute” kinds of tasks, this could be for you!
Your willingness to help our students become lifelong readers and learners is so important. Our goal for all our students ---- All readers All the time Discovering new worlds
